Galewood-Montclare Garden Club
The Galewood-Montclare Garden Club offers monthly meetings featuring guest speakers from varied backgrounds, sharing their knowledge and inspiring us.
You don't need to be a member to attend, but an annual membership fee of $10 will fund our Garden Clubs of Illinois membership, provide seed funding for community projects, and support our web site. In return, you will receive Garden Glories, a quarterly publication from GCI, discounts, and a new member gift.

Chicago Conservation Corps and the Galewood Garden Club are presenting a free public seminar, Managing Stormwater at your Home, at Rutherford-Sayre Park on Saturday September 20 at 10am. Email email@example.com to enter a raffle for rain barrels, dual-flush toilet kits, and low-flow showerheads.

In April, we’ll be hosting Earth Day cleanup at Rutherford Sayre Park on the 26th in the morning.

Garden Club Hosts ”Green” Crafty Gardeners
Please join the Galewood-Montclare Garden Club for creative recycling crafts Saturday, February 22nd, 9:30 a.m. at Rutherford Sayre Park field house. The club will be working on individual projects and talking about plans for our gardens. This month members will be making watering globes for those plants in smaller containers that need extra sips or for indoor plants. Please bring a couple of long neck glass bottles (any color, wine or beer). Paints, brushes, some stencils, and lots of ideas will be provided. There should be time to finish both bottles.
Please RSVP by Tuesday, February 18th so supplies can be purchased. The cost is $2.00, payable at the meeting, but its FREE if you attended the first Craft Gardener event in August

”Green” Crafty Gardeners
Please join the Garden Club Galewood-Montclare for creative recycling crafts, at their next meeting 9:30 AM, Saturday, August 31st at 1919 North Neva (in yard).
The Club will be working on 3 projects – for your garden or indoor plants!
1. Everyone can design a PLANT TAG, “Shrinky Dink” style. Material and garden magazines will be available to copy your plant or your own free form design to label your favorite plants. You are welcome to make two more if you bring clear plastic tops or bottoms from #6 containers (bakery, fruit, and deli). Hint: clean label off with cooking or baby oil or Goop Off.
2. GARDEN SPARKLERS. Design, decorate and assemble your own sun catchers from recyclable materials. 3 units will be provided plus other materials (wire, beads, etc.) Additional units can be made for an additional cost. There’s always a bit of a surprise in this project. Enjoy the creative process.

BONUS: Pots and Paints will be discussed. The secret “recipe” for mixing them will be shared for those of you who want to work at home on terra cotta and plastic pots. You might want to bring in some garden favorites using terra cotta or plastic pots.

Save the Date: Earth Day April 20
The Rutherford-Sayre Park Advisory Council and Friends of the Parks are hosting an Earth Day cleanup at Rutherford-Sayre Park the morning of Saturday April 20. Many hands will be needed to clean up of the community gardens, the area in front of the field house and other areas in the park. Last year’s cleanup was a smashing success. Adults and children are welcome. Please save the date!

Working to show what truly sustainable food production and economic development looks like by farming inside an old meatpacking facility, incubating small craft food businesses, brewing beer and kombucha, and doing it all using only renewable energy that is made onsite”
The tour starts at Noon sharp and lasts an hour. The cost is $10 ($7 for 65+)
The Plant is located on the western edge of the former stockyards at approximately 47th and Ashland. We’ll have some car pooling.

Make and Take Holiday Workshop
This Saturday, December 1st at 9:30AM at Robert’s Floral Design Studio the Garden Club Galewood Montclare is hosting a special Make and Take Workshop for the holiday season. Make a door arrangement or table piece, with fresh pine, berries, pine cones, and ribbons for a $25 material fee (cash or check only). Robert will guide us in creating a lovely creation at his studio. Bring a friend or neighbor.

Garden Club Show & Tell
The next Galewood-Montclare Garden Club meeting is this Saturday, November 17th, 9:30 a.m. at the West Belmont Library, 3104 N. Narragansett Ave. The topic is “Show & Tell.” There will be a discussion about our own gardens; both successes and problems. Gather your images and email .jpg files to firstname.lastname@example.org for the presentation. Other topics are open, consider discussing some cool things you want to create next season.

Garden Club October Meeting
Saturday’s Galewood-Montclare Garden Club meeting (October 27, 2012) will be a work session. Meet at the Rutherford Sayre Park community garden at 9:30 for the fall cleanup and some work at the nearby Metra Garden that Joe Capobianco has planted, maintained, and won awards for over the years. Bring some clippers and large garbage bags.
November: The November meeting is on the 17th. The topic is Show & Tell, where the club will talk about their gardens, both successes and problems. Gather and send images to Garden_Club_GM@sbcglobal.net, and the club will create the presentation. Prepare to talk about any issues that you want, maybe even some cool things you want to create next season.
December: Save the date of December 1st for a Holiday arrangement workshop at Robert’s Floral, complete details will follow.
