More Runoff Debates as Early Voting Begins
Last Wednesday’s first debate between 29th Ward runoff contenders Chris Taliaferro and (incumbent) Deborah L. Graham (well-summarized by Austin Talks here) was quickly followed by a second debate Saturday the 21st at the Third Unitarian Church in Austin. Two more debates are scheduled: Thursday March 26 at 6pm at Sankofa Cultural Arts and Business Center (5820 W. Chicago Ave.) and Tuesday, March 31 at 6:30 pm at Austin Town Hall (5610 W. Lake St.).
Each candidate has secured a major newspaper endorsement for the runoff, with Graham getting the nod from the Sun-Times and Taliaferro earning the Tribune’s endorsement. Graham appeared at a meet-and-greet Saturday morning at Sayre-Rutherford Park and walked the ward campaigning with Rahm Emanuel.
Early voting begins tomorrow, Monday, March 21. Early voting in the 29th ward is at Amundsen Park, 6200 W. Bloomingdale. Voting will be open Mondays-Saturdays from March 23 through April 4 from 9am to 5pm and on Sunday, March 29 from 9 am to 3 pm. Voting early is encouraged, since Election Day is Tuesday, April 7, during CPS spring break.
(Watch this site for more information regarding a non-partisan march to the early voting polls on Monday, March 30th.)
