Easy Cash Solutions Changes Name to EZPawn
Controversial North Avenue business Easy Cash Solutions, 6432 W. North Avenue, has changed its storefront signage to EZPawn. The change was made even though James Rose, Vice President of Property Development for EZCORP, committed to operating the store as Easy Cash Solutions on February 19, 2013 as part of a number of concessions the business made to then Alderman Deborah Graham in order to operate at this location.
Ald. Taliaferro was made aware of the change shortly after the EZPawn sign was installed sometime around May 30th. The Alderman contacted the City of Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection and has been unable to stop EZPawn from changing the name of the business. The letter provided by EZPawn parent company EZCorp is non-binding. A Letter of Operation with the concessions should have been filed with the City of Chicago. This form would have been legally binding.
Former Rep. Deborah Graham was employed by the City of Chicago Department of Planning. It appears she should have known about filing a Letter of Operation in this situation.
Alderman Taliaferro is recommending a petition to the EZCORP objecting to the name change.
