Tour the Mid-Century Designs of Near West Suburbs
The suburban area a few miles west of Galewood and Montclare has many fine examples of mid-century corporate headquarters and factories. Area history buffs “Forgotten Chicago” will be leading Corporate Kings of the Suburbs and Stern Pinball Tour Sunday August 26. Many of these buildings were “pure products of the space age and featured forward-thinking modern design, reflecting the optimism and progressive ideals of the era in which they were built.” The tour will stop at a Bertrand Goldberg designed subdivision, current or former locations of Alberto Culver, Jewel Tea Company, Motorola, Dean Milk Co, Zenith and more. A bonus tour of the Stern Pinball factory is included. Stern is the last manufacturer of arcade-quality machines in the world.
