36th Ward – One of Chicago’s Low Crime Areas

A review of crime statistics shows the 36th Ward continues to be one of the safest areas in Chicago.  The 36th Ward is one of 11 wards with fewer than 2,000 crimes thus far in 2012 with 1,876 reported at the time this article is written.  More than 1,500 of the crimes were theft and vandalism.  No homicides have been reported in 2012 and 15 reported in the past 10 years.

Crime data was taken from the  fascinating website Crime in Chicago by Open City  which lets you explore crime trends in Chicago’s 50 wards starting with the year 2002.  The site was built using open data about Chicago crimes released by the Chicago Police Department.
