Aldermanic Candidate Questionnaires
and Community Forum
Mayoral/Aldermanic elections often come and go without much fanfare, but Mayor Daley’s surprise withdrawal ensured a great deal of public attention this year. Aldermanic candidates have taken advantage of the extra media coverage–and public disillusionment with the Daley administration–to attempt to unseat incumbents in many wards. In our 36th Ward, longtime Alderman William J.P. Banks stepped down midterm and appointed John Rice as his replacement. Six contenders have appeared hoping to unseat Rice.
The Galewood Gazette collected questions from readers and sent a questionnaire to all seven candidates and published a special edition featuring their unedited responses. Hats off to the Gazette for this Herculean effort to collect this much-needed information and share it with residents of the 36th Ward. Additionally, all seven candidates have been invited to participate in a community forum on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at the West Belmont Branch of the Chicago Public Library, 3104 North Narragansett Avenue, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. The forum was organized by the Galewood Gazette, GalewoodResidents Organization (GRO), Moms In Action, and Garden Club of Galewood-Montclare. Spread the word, attend and ask questions!
